Get Ready for Shorts Season with Laser Vein Removal

The term spider veins describes small red, purple, and blue veins that are located on the surface of your face or legs. Ninety percent of spider veins are genetic. Although spider veins are usually harmless, many people wish to treat them.

Are your spider veins stopping you from wearing shorts? Essence Skin Clinic can erase unsightly veins with a simple, minimally invasive treatment. In just a few vein removal treatments, we’ll have you ready for summer weather and feeling more confident than ever.

Spider veins may occur as the valve of the vein becomes damaged. As veins carry blood to the heart, a vein has a one-way valve that stops blood from flowing backward. Sometimes, the valve weakens over time, and blood merges inside the vein, causing it to swell in a spider-like formation.

Like previously mentioned, most spider veins causes are hereditary. However, here are a couple other factors that can increase your likelihood of getting them:

Spider veins can bring some negative symptoms to patients. Many of those with spider veins experience pain in their legs or an itching sensation. Some others report being tired, restless, or have tingling in their legs.

Women have spider veins more commonly than men and may experience worse symptoms during pregnancy or at specific points of their menstrual cycle. If you experience any of these symptoms, you can alleviate discomfort by elevating your legs or wearing compression stockings.

Dr. Ron Kolegraff, MD, FACS, FAACS performs vein removal to help eliminate unwanted symptoms and to address cosmetic concerns. But what exactly does vein removal involve?

Using a treatment method that dates back to the 1930s, Dr. Kolegraff will ask you to lie on your back and raise your legs during the procedure. He’ll clean the treatment area and gently inject each spider vein with a concentrated salt solution.

Most patients tolerate the procedure quite well and say it feels just like getting a shot. You may experience a mild burning or tingling during the injection, but this should go away in a few minutes. Dr. Kolegraff concludes the treatment by massaging your legs to help with blood circulation.

After care

Following vein removal, here are some tips you should follow to ensure you get the best results. Dr. Kolegraff may wrap your legs in compression or advise you to wear compression stockings for two days. This is important to keep the veins collapsed, so do not remove the compression unless otherwise instructed.

Avoid hot baths, saunas, and hot tubs. Do not perform any extensive physical activity for two to three days following treatment. Avoid the sun for two to three weeks and if you experience any pain, take ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

The bottom line

Vein removal is a great way to boost your confidence just in time for summer. This outpatient procedure is minimally invasive and requires no downtime. If you start treatment now, you’ll be flaunting summer dresses, swimsuits, and shorts in no time.
